There's this kind of straw man idea in learning science that no no one really believes any more, but it's kind of implicitly what people acted on for a long time. If you imagine kind of a a very old school classroom with a teacher kind of hectoring a bunch of kids, the notion is kind of like they just need to sit and pay attention. We don't believe that in classroom setting. Yet, it's the kind of a model that most people typically use when they're reading books. So why does that happen? Why do we not understand it? R why we're not able to reproduce it? And why do we think that we can't?
