The New Cycle of Newspapers
Local newspapers did play an active role in disseminating roders. A story that was in one paper one week would appear, with very little alteration, in another paper the next week. So there was a kind of uncritical new cycle in which a lack of attention to the veracity of stories and a greater attention to whether or not they were principal and newsworthy. That's nothing new papers have been uncritically printing and recitling stories for a long time.
