Whitfield grew up in an Anglican Church of England family. His birth father dies when he's young, and then his mother remarriages unhappily. He had never understood that there needed to be this life transforming encounter with Christ. As a Christian, I see the Lord was drawing him, but he begins to contemplate first a pastoral career.
