James Stout: Paraguay is a landlocked nation bordered by Bolivia, Brazil, and Argentina. He says the country has had an unbroken sequence of dictatorships since its independence from Spain in 1811. Stresner's official title was El Supremo; he could not vote for him but his people voted for him. The dictator spent more than 25 years in power before being overthrown.
