Moral convictions involve subjective states of mind. We all recognize this. Is why you can be morally offended by something that i find unobjectionable, and that i can be offended by something that you think is just fine. But the paradox is that when we are in the grip of moral conviction, we forget that we are experiencing something subjective. Our convictions feel objectively true, like saying two plus two equals four. This is an illusion, but it's a powerful one, and it leads us to a powerful conclusion.
