In 1804, the French police uncovered a plot to assassinate the first console. Napoleon took the opportunity to dispose of another old enemy. One conspiracy theory suggests that the Duke was actually killed because him and Bonaparte shared a mistress. This little anecdote also plays around with another Napoleon myth: he had epilepsy.
