The fragility of modern life is laid bare in unstable times, as it has been during the pandemic. Problems feed into calamities and turn into catastrophes. The problems that will confront us over the next 50 years are not less imposing than the cove 19 pandemic. A healthy society has the wherewithal to diagnose its problems and patch them when they appear. We do not live in a healthy society.
