The History of Erie, Pennsylvania
Erie is the third largest and northernmost city in Pennsylvania. During the 1920s, Erie was well-renowned for its freshwater and commercial fishing as well as the region's famous Preskaull State Park. Traditionally, Erie's major economic sectors have been in manufacturing but also government services and retail trade. But during the 1980s, Erie fell victim to the economic downturn which hit many towns and cities where manufacturing was the lifeblood. It is one of 40 US cities known as the shrinking cities, dense cities that have experienced noticeable population loss.
