The Benefits of Metformin in Preventing Progression to Diabetes

Metformin may show some benefit in reducing the incidents of diabetes compared to standard diet and lifestyle counseling. Patients with a BMI greater than 35, higher fasting glucose or A1C, or history of gestational diabetes benefit most from Metformin for preventing progression from prediabetes to Type 2 diabetes.
