The Imago De, the Image of God
In the hebrew, it's bialm bsalmo but salem, in the image of god. And likeness betsalmo, but salemand, and this comes into latin as imago dei,. The image of god is still the place we have in creation. Sin can mar the image, not just personal sin, but the fact that the world is broken. Nevertheless, we are of a species that sees and reasons, and therefore we are god's representative. Whoso sheddeth man's blood by man, shall his blood be shed. This is a death penalty for murderers. But more importantly, a prohibition upon killing people because they are in the image
