I like very much Elphie Kohn's book punished by rewards for clarifying how rewards are equally violent as punishment. Non-violent communication suggests that we not only avoid criticism, rewards, punishments and punishment, it also suggests the danger of a language that denies choice. I often refer to this language that deny choice by using the German word umpt sprachhe. At his trial for war crimes in Jerusalem Eichmann was asked was it difficult for you to send thousands of people to their death. He said to tell you the truth it was easy. Our language made it easy.
