Climbing in the Dark
Jane peered into the cave and realized that it was not a cave at all, in the true sense. Rather, it appeared that a boulder had been torn from its matrix during the past collapse. Jane put his hands against the stone and pushed, gingerly at first, but then with more force. A slab of granite just over a foot wide and twice as long lifted off the roof of the fissure. They stood on a shelf of bare rock about six feet across, just a little wider than the cave below. It was easy enough to get a grip on either side of the opening and pull himself up.
