A Christmas Carol really is a ghost story, I mean, that's what it is. Dickens absolutely knows how to dial up the spookiness of it. The signalman feels much more modern in a way, because there is something going on with time. It came out of Dickens' own experience with a rail crash - so it's kind of haunted by that as well.
