Lennon and McCartney - A Memoir

By his mid-teens, Lennon was recreating a relationship with his mother. She taught him how to play the banjo and they worked out chords together. He also formed a skiffle group which he called the Quarrymen. The moment that changed the history of the music came on July 6, 1957 when Ivan Vaughn invited his friend Paul McCartney to go and see the Quarryman's performer Walton Village Fate. That day has gone down in history as the day John Matt Paul met Paul McCartney. It is though, the day on which Lennon and McCartney first impressed each other musically.
