The Inflorescence of Grasse
There will always be a white, distinct zone in the lamina of all grasses called the color. The forms of inflorescence usually met with are the spike racine and panical. When the spikelets are secile or borne directly along an elongated axis, as in interapogan melicoides, the inflorescence is a spike. If the spikelets borne by the axis are all stalked, however short the petacles may be, it is a raceme. In paspalum scabiculatu or panicum givonic, the whole inflorescent is a compound racine. It must also be remembered that true spikes are very rare.
