Measles can still be a very deadly disease. So what caused this decline? It was improvement in sanitation. Once we got better commerce into the cities and had better living conditions, not having the kinds of putrid filth everywhere. Then in the 1950s, they started fortifying foods with certain vitamins. And so as all of those public health improvements have gotten better, then that's what caused the decline of all those diseases.
