Intro
This chapter launches the Allocators Edge miniseries, focusing on the complexities of capital allocation amidst inflation and interest rate changes. It emphasizes the critical role of decision-making in investment strategies, particularly for healthcare foundations, and offers valuable insights for families and institutional clients.
This week, in an Allocator’s Edge episode of the Value Perspective, we’re delighted to be joined by Khaled Said, one of the founders of Capital Generation Partners, also known as CapGen. CapGen specialises in managing large pools of capital for families, endowments and individuals, helping clients build portfolios that not only protect wealth but also put it into productive use through diverse and dynamic strategies. Khaled bring a unique perspective as the ‘voice of the client’ to CapGen, advocating for the standards that he believes clients deserve. With experience managing his own family’s wealth, he has a deep understanding of the challenges families face when navigating the investment management industry. Khaled’s principled approach ensures that client portfolios are managed by people who think like principals and not like agents. His background includes strategy consulting at Bain & Company where he specialised in private equity. He has a degree in Law from Oxford University, a Masters in History from Harvard and an MBA (Dean’s List) from INSEAD. If CapGen sounds familiar, you may recall that another CapGen founder, Charlotte Thorne, joined us previously, both as a guest and as a co-host on an episode with Stacy Havener. In this episode we dive into: building and empowering investment teams in family offices; preserving and creating wealth across generations; comparing Eastern and Western family office dynamics; and the psychological biases shaping perceptions of wealth. Enjoy!
