The Theology of the Body
The insistence upon the union of souls elevates the pro-creative aspect of marriage above the merely biological to the distinctively human. Marriage entails much more than breeding children because human beings are capable of a unique chosen rational love that unites spouses spiritually as well as bodily. With phenomenological method for example we can study experiences of morality, religion or simply what it is to be human and draw from them a significant enrichment of our knowledge.
