Kennedy proved himself to be a warrior for peace. He resolved that with Khrushchev. People don't give him credit enough for really saving us from a war. But the moment he was killed, Lyndon Johnson went back immediately to the old way of thinking. The Cold War basically lasted. I mean, you saw the ups and downs of it. When Reagan came in, I was worried about this beat because it was a beating of the old beat. It doesn't end on American history; there's an internal mechanism which can change again.
