In psychology, often it is the case that someone is trying to pursue a relatively like, novel research question. But even for questions that are by definition, like novel, there's still a need to have this pretty precise prediction about what they should expect. We don't know exactly what we should base our power calculation on, but we know how much resources we would like to spend,. and things like that. And so i think people tend to jump ahead and skip a lot of rea important points - which can lead to more boring answers.
