As Europe's population swelled, cemeteries began to fill up at an alarming rate. In France, the government actually had to step in and build new graves for people who couldn't fit into existing ones. Grayfryer Cemetery in Edinburgh has more than half a million recorded burials. On especially rainy days, remains that aren't sealed within a casket have a tendency to float to the surface.
