Tokyo University's Zen Kyoto began to come apart in the fall of 1968. Radical factions of the Zen Gaku-ren arrived on the scene to get in on the action. The university president Okuchi Kazuo first attempted to wait things out over the summer holidays. But when classes resumed, the strike picked right back up.
