When he's 12 years old, they do finally send him to school. He is beat up and bullied and harassed so badly that they just take him out of school. They also took grandma Suarez, which I just think is a charming detail. So the whole bore his family, dad, mom, Nora, Georgie's sister, there is something that's more satisfying about being beaten up in the old country. It's why they left.
