Head hunting is tied up with ideas of fertility, ideas of power, ideas of gender. It's often co-opted by emerging elites as a way of demonstrating power and prestige. There's a massive evidence for it, not just in the Iron Age, but in other periods too. We have a tremendous iconography around head hunting where you have lots of statues which borrows from Greek sculpture.
