The reason for the Soviets putting bombs in Cuba is for deterrence it wasn't an act of aggression against the United States. This was logical given what the US had been doing up until this point encircling the Soviet Union with military bases you know building up NATO on its borders I mean those same reasons should be applied to understand why the Soviets considered the US such a threat after World War II. In 1946 they tell the Soviets that if they don't pull out of Iran they're gonna nuke them too so this is the Soviets are very aware of the nuclear issue they're not just ignorant and cavalier about it They're just trying to come up with a way to balance power against this nuclear
