In the fifties and sixties, many women took home economics courses. This was a field that women went into because they wanted jobs. The government defunded the bureau of home economics in the early sixties. And then we had this sudden growth of what came to be called business home economics. That was companies doing the same thing, only they were trying to sell you their products.
