The Role of Stoicism in Shakespeare's Works

The most obvious place where Shakespeare tangles with stoicism, as you might expect, is in the Roman place. But I think people tend to overlook the depiction of Antonio in the Merchant of Venice. He's ostensibly sort of ethnically Christian, but his moral allegiance is to stoicism. And we see a similar dynamic in another actually Venetian character who is ostensibly Christian, who is Othello.
