The Importance of Increased Engagement in Conflict Resolution

I like to think that through increased engagement, there are conflicts that can be reduced, prevented or perhaps solved more quickly. I understand the argument of why people thought that that would help after World War I. And so in theory, if you had a space where negotiation and compromise and conversation could take place, perhaps it could have been prevented. But the UN is essentially impotent in the face of something like this.
