I grew up in a community where there were a lot of Orthodox friends and things, so yeah, that wasn't hard. We spoke Russian to each other until we were four or five. It was an interesting place to grow up. As long as you spoke Russian or Chinese, you'd be fine. So it was very much a surprise. Well, I suppose it was a surprise. Yes. But to come into terms with the historical reality of Russia, for me, that meant I wasn't going to abandon it because it was so much a part of who I was.
