The Search for High Temperature Superconductivity

Superconductors can create magnetic fields which are ten times larger than the strongest permanent magnet. This has led to a sea change in the design and manufacture of strong magnets for all manner of applications such as MRI scanners, ship engines,. levitated trains, particle accelerators, and now nuclear fusion reactors. One of the new developments is to try and build a quantum computer using superconducting circuits.
