Train Stat Spotter - Should We Believe These Claims?
If you add up all the money each villager earns a year and divide by a hundred, the average income is 31 thousand pounds. Now imagine elon musk moves to the village, and he has an income of over a hundred million pounds a year. You might from that that everyone's a millionaire, but of course, they aren't. The problem with using the mean as a measure of the average - if you have an extreme outlie, then the mean won't be anything like the typical experience. So instead we could use the medium which is simply the value in the middle. It gives a picture of what's happening to a typical person without being skewed by a few extreme values
