There are only three things that you have to have in order to be human, says Lacan. First is a body - don't have to look like mine or yours but need some flesh of some kind. The second element is the one where analysis does the most conceptual work. Human bodies, unlike horse bodies, need copious amounts of care from others. In order to survive we all do it and in that sense it's archetypal.
