She learned by watching her grandmother, Cleofas, and her cousin Claudia, who's now one of the village's expert weavers. Garmin learned how to make scarves, rugs, tablecloths, and table runners but what made her famous were herpáños banchos - traditional Salvadoran shawls women wear over their heads. Weaving one of them can take up to eight hours.
