The Negative Effects of a Low Potassium Diet on Blood Pressure
A low potassium diet has been associated with progression of chronic kidney disease, the exact opposite of what we're trying to accomplish for our patients. Research suggests that maybe potassium functions in the same way as phosphorus and there's a bioavailability aspect that not all the phosphorus or potassium going in is reflexively absorbed. Fruits and veggies actually provide a lot of alkali which counteracts metabolic acidosis of CKD.
