Jesus' Authority Isn't Just Structural, It's Spiritual
The authority we find in the Bible that's tied up with Jesus isn't structural but spiritual. It's an access point to reality and we, just like the people in the four Gospels, have to decide whether we live with it or against it. We are listening to and trusting in and obeying God as an act of love and worship. To reframe that in the negative, not listening to or not trusting or disobeying the scriptures is an act of rebellion against him.
