Thousands of parents in england each year lose their children because the state decides that they are not fit to look after them. Polly curtis is a journalist who began investigating how we break up families when she was working at tortoise, and she's just written a book about it. She says being referred to social services is a very long way from having your child removed. At that point, it is absolutely a class dictated system. You are so much more likely to have your child removed if youre poor than if you're wealthy.
