As a human i the mind as something that's shared with other people. We believe what we do because the people around us believe what they do. This is the way humanity evolved, and it's not simply a matter of getting us to think more independently. I don't think the solution is give people the information they need. More information can be good if it's very well filteredn and curated. But that's not easy to do in an unbiased way.
There are a lot of barriers to changing your mind: ego, overconfidence, inertia — and cost. Politicians who flip-flop get mocked; family and friends who cross tribal borders are shunned. But shouldn’t we be encouraging people to change their minds? And how can we get better at it ourselves?
