We long knew that Stonehenge had an avenue leading towards the river. We didn't know at that point if that avenue actually reached the river, which is why we wanted to dig there. And what we found was yes, it did, and there's a completely unknown former stone circle there turned into a henge. It's even wider than the Stonehenge avenue, 30 meters across, two low banks on either side, and a proper rammed flint surface. So the nearest thing to a Neolithic road that I've ever seen," he says.
