The Importance of a Mixed Constitution
Two key themes in the Republican tradition are institutional and civic ideals. The idea that government should be organized around what was called a mixed constitution. Other element, as I see it, which could be treated as an aspect of the mixed constitution but maybe better separated out is contestation. So we've got the notion of a mixed constitution being important and of contestation.
