Is There a Risk of Specialization?

The danger with specializing too much in response to the technical environment you're in is that if that environment changes, you are now vulnerable. There's a risk or reward payoff where specialization can allow you to just be very valuable to people that really need that skill and then when they don't anymore, you're in trouble. It's interesting how certain kinds of tools like Oracle or certain frameworks can yield a lot of benefit in a professional career.
