We don't have a ton of welfare i programmes in the united states. We spend a lot of money on social security, but most of it is for people who are retired and have paid into the social security system for most of their working lives. And then we spend a ton of money on a providing health care to people through medicare,. which is for elderly people, and medicade, which is for certain people who live in poverty. Right now they're really popular with both republicans and democrats. I actually think if we talked in specifics instead of in a ideologically charged language, we would find a lot more overlap.
