Xenophon's Anabasis Book Five
Xenophon in the 10,000 mercenaries of Cyrus finally make it to the coast after marching through Babylonia, Assyria, Kurdistan, Armenia. They're now on the coast, but it's still a very long and dangerous way to get back home to Greece. So they're not done yet, and they're not in civilization proper yet. It's kind of like the Wild West, you might compare it,. but it's the Wild East here.
