Dante and Aquinas - A Review
Foster considered that Dante owed a particular debt to Aquinas. His formation as an Aristotelian, came principally through Aquinas. Foster's understanding of the key similarities and differences between Dante and Aquinas is as follows. First, prime matter apparently created in the beginning devoid of form. Second, belief in the unity of the sole body composite in man. Third, an intellectualist approach to the problem of the will. Fourth, the hierarchy of the human faculty, and fifth, the nature of the attitude.
