The Rise and Fall of Crusading
Crusading was expensive, and both kings and the church got more effective at sucking in funds. By the 1380s there were no crusader states left in the Holy Land. In 1394 a crusade to the east would put western knighthood on a collision course with the expanding Ottoman Empire. Two very different ideas of holy war were about to collide.
