The Limits of Knowing Other People's Truths
Father Robert McTague: Is the bishop obliged to believe my truth? If I tell a bishop, that check is good. Well, well, no. Get in the airplane with me, Bishop. My truth is I identify as a qualified pilot. And you say, well, yes, Father. Those are silly examples. But that's the whole point, isn't it? That to oblige people to act on the base of an idiosyncratic assertion, logic and discourse and evidence and charity all go away. This seems to be word salad to me.
