In 1895, 10,000 attend the first official women's football match. Local teams spring up all over the country with over 100 active clubs in 1900s. The outbreak of World War I prompts a sudden shift in gender roles. With men conscripted to the front, women now make up half of the British Labour force. This time, ladies football goes back to its working class roots.
