Three Lessons to Stop the Cycle of Poverty

The Black Death spelled the end of extractive feudalism in Western Europe. Eastern European peasants were not so lucky, and landowners started hiking taxes higher. The US South's exclusive institutions against blacks are slowly becoming more economically and politically inclusive. Foreign aid does very little to change extractive institutions in Africa and Central Asia.
