Helping Writers Become Authors

The Key Event and the First Plot Point

The key event and the first plot point function as two halves of the same whole. They act together to create an arc that, just like any good arc, reverses the value of the scene or sequence. This concept will, of course, be dramatized in either a single scene or a sequence of scenes. In fact, the key event can take place much nearer the insiting event, at the 12 % mark, than to the first plotpoint itself,. depending on how your first act requires you to set up the entry into the second act.
