The Importance of Songwriting

Hannett recorded the sounds of bottle smashing someone eating a packet of crisps. He ordered Stephen Morris to dismantle his entire drum kick piece by piece in order to locate a small rattle he swore you could hear on tape. As the band wrought and re-raught material on the hoof, Hannett's working methods became more erratic. Martin managed to capture the eccentricity of our sound and add some of his own eccentricities.
