September 11th 2001 was his last mission as captain of latter six. 343 firefighters were killed including two paramedics, its chaplain Michael Judge, and a fire marshal Ronald Buka. The FDNY's chief, its rescue chief, and the first deputy commissioner died that day too. More than 90 units lost at least one firefighter that day. Homeno's department the PAPD lost 37 officers as well as the head of the police academy who had trained Homeno just months before.
